Basketball
Basketball is usually played between two teams of five players on a rectangular court. It is usually an indoor game. Each team tries to score by tossing the ball through the opponent’s goal, a high horizontal hoop, and a net called a basket. Basketball was invented by James Naismith on December 1, 1891, at the International Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Training School, Springfield, Massachusetts, where Nicemith was a physical education instructor. Basketball is the only major sport of American descent (although Nicemith was born in Canada).
