When Daniil was 6 years old, his mother noticed an advertisement for group tennis lessons in the pool where he was taking swimming lessons. His father encouraged him admitted. Medvedev’s first tennis teacher was Ekaterina Kryuchkova, a former coach of Vera Zvonareva, a professional tennis player. 2015–2018

Medvedev made his ATP main draw debut in the 2015 Kremlin Cup, partnering in a doubles event with Aslan Karatsev.

As a qualifier, Medvedev made his ATP singles major draw at the 2016 Nice Open, losing to Guido Pella in three sets. Three weeks later, he defeated Horacio Zeballos in straight sets to win his first singles ATP World Tour at the 2016 Ricoh Open.

Medvedev reached his first ATP singles final in January 2017. In the final of the Chennai Open, he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in two sets.

At the 2017 Wimbledon Championships, Medvedev registered his first Grand Slam match win and defeated world No. 3 Stan Wawrinka by four sets. He lost to Ruben Bemelman in the next round.
