Hazard began his football career at four with his hometown club, Royal Stade Braineise. Hazard joined Lille in 2005 and spent two years developing at the club’s local sports academy. On May 28, 2007, he signed his first professional contract, agreeing a three-year contract with Lille. At the start of the 2007–08 season, at 16, Hazard was promoted to the club’s reserve team in the Champions de France Amateur.
