Racing

The word race comes from a Norse word. A nation and its name are often associated with place of origin, means of transportation, and distance to the nation. In sports, racing is a contest of speed, in which competitors attempt to complete a given task in the shortest time. Usually it involves speed to cover some distance and reach a certain goal.

A race may be run continuously to complete several segments called heats, stages or legs. A heat is usually run over the same course at different times.
