On August 15, 2021, Rich Strike made his first start in a maiden particular weight contest at one mile over the turf at Ellis Park. He broke gradually and competed near the back of the pack down the backstretch. Then made a decisive step on the turn to take the lead. Covering a mile in 1:36.84, He won a $30,000 maiden claiming race by 17 1/4 lengths. Rich Strike was entered in an allowance optional claiming race at Keeneland on October 9; after being bumped, he bobbled initially and had to be stabilized entering the first go-around. He finished third, beaten 5 3/4 lengths by the victorious Tiz the Bomb. On December 26 in the Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Rich Strike formed his final start of the year.
