On August 15, 2021, Rich Strike made his first start in a maiden particular weight contest at one mile over the turf at Ellis Park. He broke gradually and competed near the back of the pack down the backstretch. Then made a decisive step on the turn to take the lead. Covering a mile in 1:36.84, He won a $30,000 maiden claiming race by 17 1/4 lengths. Rich Strike was entered in an allowance optional claiming race at Keeneland on October 9; after being bumped, he bobbled initially and had to be stabilized entering the first go-around. He finished third, beaten 5 3/4 lengths by the victorious Tiz the Bomb.
