Charles Leclerc has been confirmed to graduate to the Formula 2 series for the 2017 season with Prema Racing. In Austria, he took his fifth pole position and then won the feature race from pole despite pressure from teammate Fuoco.

Formula One career

In 2016, Leclerc joined the Ferrari Driver Academy. He has worked as a development driver for Haas F1 Team and Scuderia Ferrari. As part of his role as a development driver, Leclerc participated in the first practice sessions driving the British and German Grand Prix. In 2017, he took part in the mid-season Hungaroring test after the Hungarian Grand Prix, driving a Ferrari SF70H. He was fastest on the first day of testing, completing 98 laps.

For the 2018 Formula One World Championship, Leclerc signed for the Sauber F1 team as a race driver.
